Psychotherapy for Joint Pain in Breast Cancer Survivors

      Commack, New York
The researchers are doing this study to compare two different types of group therapy and find out whether they are effective approaches for helping breast cancer survivors manage joint pain caused by aromatase inhibitors (AI). This type of joint pain is called AI-associated arthralgia, or AIA, and it is common in people taking AIs. AIA and its associated symptoms can make some people decide to stop taking their medication. The study will look at the effects of two different types of group therapy on participants' cancer-related symptoms (such as pain, fatigue, and anxiety), their ability to continue taking AIs on a regular schedule, and their quality of life. We will measure participants' quality of life by having them fill out questionnaires. Both groups will have 2-hour group therapy sessions once a week, over the course of 8 weeks. During the sessions, you will be in a group of 6-10 participants, who may be a mixture of patients from both MSK and University of California San Diego (UCSD).

      BV-AVD for Hodgkin's Lymphoma

      Commack, New York
The purpose of this study is to test whether BV-AVD is an effective treatment in people with early stage, bulky Hodgkin lymphoma that was recently diagnosed and who have not yet received any treatments for their disease. BV is a type of drug called an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC). ADCs are a substance made up of a monoclonal antibody chemically linked to a drug. Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system to fight infections and other possible harms to the body. The monoclonal antibody binds to specific proteins or receptors found on certain types of cells, including cancer cells. The linked drug enters these cells and kills them without harming other cells. Researchers think BV may be an effective treatment for this type of cancer because the drug targets cells that have CD30, which play a role in cancer cell growth. By destroying these cells, BV may help slow or stop the growth of the cancer. AVD (doxorubicin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine) is a treatment regimen that works by stopping the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. The researchers think that BV in combination with AVD may work better than AVD alone to slow or stop the growth of the cancer.

      2141-V11 Antibody for Prostate Cancer

      Commack, New York
The purpose of this study is to see whether combining 2141-V11 with various standard treatments is an effective treatment approach for prostate cancer. 2141-V11 works by activating the immune system to find and kill cancer cells. Researchers will look at whether this treatment approach is able to completely get rid of cancer in participants, and they will check for the presence of minimal residual disease (MRD) in participants. MRD is a small number of cancer cells that can be detected in the body after treatment.

Venetoclax + HMA for Acute Myeloid Leukemia

      Commack, New York
This phase II MyeloMATCH treatment trial compares the usual treatment of azacitidine and venetoclax to the combination treatment of azacitidine, venetoclax and gilteritinib in treating older and unfit patients with acute myeloid leukemia and FLT3 mutations. Azacitidine is a drug that is absorbed into DNA and leads to the activation of cancer suppressor genes, which are genes that help control cell growth. Venetoclax is in a class of medications called B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) inhibitors. It may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking Bcl-2, a protein needed for cancer cell survival. Gilteritinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of a certain naturally occurring substance that may be needed to help cancer cells multiply. This study may help doctors find out if these different approaches are better than the usual approaches. To decide if they are better, the study doctors are looking to see if the study drugs lead to a higher percentage of patients achieving a deeper remission compared to the usual approach.

      Why Other Patients Applied

"I've been struggling with ADHD and anxiety since I was 9 years old. I'm currently 30. I really don't like how numb the medications make me feel. And especially now, that I've lost my grandma and my aunt 8 days apart, my anxiety has been even worse. So I'm trying to find something new."

"I changed my diet in 2020 and I’ve lost 95 pounds from my highest weight (283). I am 5’3”, female, and now 188. I still have a 33 BMI. I've been doing research on alternative approaches to continue my progress, which brought me here to consider clinical trials."

      WR
      Obesity PatientAge: 58

"My orthopedist recommended a half replacement of my right knee. I have had both hips replaced. Currently have arthritis in knee, shoulder, and thumb. I want to avoid surgery, and I'm open-minded about trying a trial before using surgery as a last resort."

      HZ
      Arthritis PatientAge: 78

"I've tried several different SSRIs over the past 23 years with no luck. Some of these new treatments seem interesting... haven't tried anything like them before. I really hope that one could work."

      ZS
      Depression PatientAge: 51

"I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer three months ago, metastatic to my liver, and I have been receiving and responding well to chemotherapy. My blood work revealed that my tumor markers have gone from 2600 in the beginning to 173 as of now, even with the delay in treatment, they are not going up. CT Scans reveal they have been shrinking as well. However, chemo is seriously deteriorating my body. I have 4 more treatments to go in this 12 treatment cycle. I am just interested in learning about my other options, if any are available to me."

      Hemodilution for Ovarian Cancer

      Commack, New York
Participants will be scheduled for primary cytoreductive surgery as part of their standard care. Before surgery, participants will be assigned by chance to a study group. Depending on which group they are in, they will receive either acute normovolemic hemodilution/ANH during surgery or standard surgical management during surgery. The researchers think acute normovolemic hemodilution/ANH may decrease the need for allogenic blood transfusion/ABT in people having primary cytoreductive surgery.

Iadademstat + Atezolizumab/Durvalumab for Small Cell Lung Cancer

      Commack, New York
This phase I/II trial tests the safety, side effects, and best dose of iadademstat when given together with atezolizumab or durvalumab, and studies the effect of the combination in treating patients with small cell lung cancer that has spread outside of the lung in which it began or to other parts of the body (extensive stage) who initially received standard of care chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Iadademstat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as atezolizumab or durvalumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Adding iadademstat to either atezolizumab or durvalumab may be able to stabilize cancer for longer than atezolizumab or durvalumab alone in treating patients with extensive stage small cell lung cancer.

The researchers will compare the health outcomes of people who have minimal residual disease (MRD-small amounts of cancer cells in the body after a person receives treatment) at the time of SLL with the health outcomes of people who do not have MRD at the time of SLL. The researchers are also doing this study to determine if SLL is safe and practical (feasible) in people with advanced ovarian cancer who have completed the first course of therapy for their disease.

Iberdomide + Belantamab Mafodotin + Dexamethasone for Multiple Myeloma

      Commack, New York
This phase I/II trial tests the safety, side effects, best dose, and effectiveness of iberdomide in combination with belantamab mafodotin and dexamethasone in treating patients with multiple myeloma (MM) that has come back after a period of improvement (relapsed) or that does not respond to treatment (refractory). Multiple myeloma is a cancer that affects white blood cells called plasma cells, which are made in the bone marrow and are part of the immune system. Multiple myeloma cells have a protein on their surface called B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) that allows the cancer cells to survive and grow. Immunotherapy with iberdomide, may induce changes in body's immune system and may interfere with the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Belantamab mafodotin has been designed to attach to the BCMA protein, which may cause the myeloma cell to become damaged and die. Dexamethasone is in a class of medications called corticosteroids. It is used to reduce inflammation and lower the body's immune response to help lessen the side effects of chemotherapy drugs. Iberdomide plus belantamab mafodotin may help slow or stop the growth of cancer in patients with multiple myeloma.

      Frequently Asked Questions

How much do clinical trials in Commack, NY pay?

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do clinical trials in Commack, NY work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across trials in Commack, NY 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length in Commack, NY is 12 months.

How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility in Commack, NY several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a medical study in Commack, NY?

Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental. For these cancer trials, participants typically need insurance to cover all the non-experimental components.

What are the newest clinical trials in Commack, NY?

Most recently, we added Pembrolizumab for Sarcoma, Pirtobrutinib + Venetoclax + Rituximab for Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia and Botensilimab + Balstilimab for Colorectal Cancer to the Power online platform.
